10/29/19 - Visual Development
This milestone was a quick turnaround from the last, but I was still able to get a lot done! I've developed a good system for keeping track of my assets in a spreadsheet. Seeing everything that I need to get done this semester makes me realize how quickly I need to make progress, and I end up putting a lot more into each milestone than I would without that bigger picture view.
The characters are coming along nicely and I already have all three evolutions of Mo (the animal) rigged and ready to animate! The Creator is a slow process because it is the first big 3D modeling project I have attempted. I have a head model that is about 90% done and I'm excited to tackle the rigging and texturing next! Lastly I have developed the environment further by using effects in After Effects on simple shape layers to get a grainy, soft look. It is also set up to be transferred to several different shots and save a ton of time.
My main concern at this point is the 3D elements. Since I am taking on a lot of tasks that I am unfamiliar with, it's hard to predict how long things will take. I'm not too worried, because the way I see it the worst case scenario at this point is that I just end up cutting stuff and the film won't be ruined by any means. My plan now is to just keep on chipping away at it as much as I can until we reach winter break, and then after a full semester of production I will re-evaluate my remaining workload.
