Museum Graphics

Planetarium Lobby Graphics

I was contracted to design 7 wall graphics for the Peoria Riverfront Museum’s redesign of their new Planetarium Lobby. The entire space was being transformed, so I worked with the museum to design graphics that would fit their vision for the space. It was importance to balance the graphics to showcase the information and images as clearly as possible and work together while also making each graphic unique for its subject.

Heart

I created this large wall mural for and exhibit about the human heart. This exhibit was curated by the Peoria Riverfront Museum to be paired with the traveling Body Worlds exhibit. My mural showcases the “two paths of heart health”. On the left are unhealthy habits that are bad for your heart (and the result of those habits), and on the right you see a healthier lifestyle. The goal of the mural was to put museum visitors at the crossroads to understand that about 90% of their heart’s health is directly linked to their choices.

Mars

I designed several large wall graphics for an exhibit about the planet Mars. My graphics are prominently featured in the largest self-curated space exhibit the Peoria Riverfront Museum has ever created.

A Complete Timeline of the exploration of Mars. I was given the text and images by the exhibit curator and designed the timeline to flow well over a 10x30 foot wall.

A graphic to illustrate the height of Olympus Mons, the tallest mountain in the solar system, compared to Earth’s tallest mountains and tallest building.

A composition of graphics demonstrating the size of Valles Marineris, a giant crack in the Martian surface.

Planet Passport

I lead the visual design for a monthly Planetarium show series about the solar system. Visitors get a "passport” with a page about all the planets in the solar system and need to come to each show to get a sticker for that planet and learn about the planet. I made the passport layout, cover design, sticker design, and some promotional materials with consistent branding.

Deep Time

Display case backgrounds and layouts that I designed for an Exhibit called "Deep Time". The purpose of the exhibit is to educate visitors on the full history of life on Earth through the 3 major eras: Paleozoic, Mesozoic, and Cenozoic.

The background was designed to present the information clearly, show the immense timescales of life on Earth, and most importantly complement the fossils that are on display in the exhibit.

James Webb Space Telescope Control Panel

This is a timeline I created for the Dome to show the development of NASA's James Webb Space Telescope. In addition to the telescope being technically complex and extremely exciting scientifically, I wanted viewers to understand the history of this massive project. This was displayed on the dome over a starry background with narration.

This is a graphic to demonstrate the concept of Redshift. Because the universe is constantly expanding, the light from far away objects is stretched out to longer wavelengths as it moves towards us. This makes distant galaxies appear "redder" than they actually are.

Both of these graphics were included in a full presentation package that I created for the James Webb Space Telescope using Digistar 7 planetarium software. After compiling various videos, photos, and custom graphics into a custom control panel, I was able to upload it to the cloud about before the launch of the telescope. The control panel was downloaded and used to explain JWST to the public in over 100 planetariums around the world!
